FIRST FRUIT FASTING EXERCISE (DAY 5) June 1-7, 2020
Theme: QUIT YOURSELVES AS MEN AND FIGHT
Texts: 1Sam.4:6-9, Eph.6:12
We bless the Lord whose grace has sustained us in this fasting exercise. A factor that motivates a participant in a tasking exercise is knowledge of the glory ahead (prize). Apart from the realization of the primary purpose of a fast, fasting has health benefits (1Sam.58:8-9).
We have seen how the Philistines took courage and did what was required of soldiers, and got the victory over Israel. Jehoshaphat was confronted by a tripartite column of invaders and he feared, sought the face of the Lord with a fast; and made his arguments in prayer: pointing to the Sovereignty of the Lord (v6), His victory (v7), His promise (v.8,9), the report (v.10,11), the appeal based on their incapacitation (v.12,13).
Then, came God’s word which gave assurance and direction. The challenge turned out to be a blessing (2Chr.20:24-26).
